Over 50 Members of Parliament have declared that they have no confidence in Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle following last night's decision.
Dozens of Conservative and SNP MPS have backed a motion demanding the removal of Sir Hoyle from the seat. He caused controversy when broke convention and allowed a Labour amendment that called for an "immediate humanitarian ceasefire" that must be observed by "all sides".
The plan was passed without a vote which led to SNP MPs storming out of the chamber and the Government announcing it would boycott proceedings. LancsLive reports that those putting their names to an early day motion declaring no confidence in Sir Lindsay include Sir Graham Brady, who chairs the influential 1922 Committee of backbench Tories.
The Greater Manchester MPs who have signed the motion include William Wragg who represents Hazel Grove in Stockport, Chris Green representing Bolton West and James Grundy of Leigh.
