The government is calling for hundreds of thousands of people to volunteer to help the NHS. In Tuesday's daily coronavirus briefing, Secretary of State for Health Matt Hancock says the government wants 250,000 people to come forward to offer to support the health service, as it battles the coronavirus pandemic.
They will be needed to help with shopping, delivering medicine and to help those who are shielding in isolation. More than 1.5m of the country's most at risk people have been told they must be totally shielded from contact for 12 weeks.
