Countries across central Europe have been plunged back into lockdown as rising infection rates sweep across the continent. Several countries have re-imposed full or partial lockdowns, while others have reintroduced rules around mask-wearing and extended the use of Covid health passes.
In the UK, ministers have insisted that the UK will not need to take such drastic action thanks to high vaccination rates. Some of the worst affected regions of Europe have some of the lowest vaccination rates in the continent.
Last week, UK prime minister Boris Johnson urged the public to get vaccinated in order to avoid the re-introduction of restrictions this winter.
