Paramedics and armed police were called to Hughes Avenue in Wolverhampton at 4.15pm on Saturday after the 18-year-old was found with chest injuries A weapon - believed to be a double-barrel shotgun - was found nearby and West Midlands Police said enquiries into whether it was used in the incident are currently ongoing, Birmingham Live reports.
Police say the victim is "critical but stable" in hospital with her injuries. A dog walker said it was an "horrendous" incident and shocking that it had happened to a young girl.
