Steve Albini has spoken to NME about his time recording Nirvana‘s ‘In Utero’ – as well as working with the “smart, unpretentious, and really funny” Manic Street Preachers.Speaking from his Electrical Audio studio in Chicago, the outspoken Albini – who has also worked on cult and classic records by Pixies, Breeders, Yourcodenameis:milo, Slint and PJ Harvey – said that being forever associated with Nirvana due his work on their 1993 final album ‘In Utero‘ was no albatross.“It’s totally normal, it’s perfectly reasonable,” the producer and audio engineer told NME. “If you had never heard of me before and someone is trying to introduce me to you, they are going to name the famous records that I worked on – and ‘In Utero’ is the most famous.”Albini said that working on the follow-up to the internationally successful ‘Nevermind’ was “fairly normal”, though he ensured that all knowledge of the sessions were kept secret.“There wasn’t anything out of the ordinary about the sessions,” he said.

Manic Street Preachers have postponed tomorrow’s (June 12) show at the Peterborough Embankment, after frontman James Dean Bradfield tested positive for COVID-19.Sharing the news on social media yesterday evening (June 10), the band confirmed that ticketholders would be contacted “by their point of sale” over the weekend. The Manics are yet to announce a new date for their Peterborough show, which is their only headliner scheduled for the immediate future. Manic Street Preachers performed ‘If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next’ at the benefit ‘Concert For Ukraine’ this evening (March 29).Announced earlier this month, the two-hour benefit show is raising money for the Disasters Emergency Committee‘s (DEC) Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal and is being held at Resorts World Arena, Birmingham.The band performed the 1998 single, which was inspired by the Spanish Civil War, and the idealism of Welsh volunteers who joined the left-wing International Brigades fighting for the Spanish Republic against Francisco Franco’s military rebels, with an orchestra.Bassist Nicky Wire also had his microphone draped in a feather boa in the Ukraine flag colours.

Manic Street Preachers played their final show of 2021 at Wembley Arena last night (Friday December 3), where they played a cover of The Cult’s classic ‘She Sells Sanctuary’.With a setlist heavy on their 2021 14th studio album ‘The Ultra Vivid Lament‘ – which scored the band their first Number One album in 23 years back in September – the Welsh rock icons also took the time to air a rendition of The Cult’s iconic single from 1985.Introducing the track following a brief acoustic interlude in the set, frontman James Dean Bradfield dedicated their cover to the late, great record producer Steve Brown, who died back in January aged 65.
