Total War developers Creative Assembly are reportedly working on a new Star Wars game.According to a new report by Dualshockers, Total War: Star Wars has been in development since October 2023. Total War is a series of strategy games that typically combine turn-based strategy and resource management with real-time tactical control of battles, with this new game set to take that to a galaxy far, far away.The report also claims that Creative Assembly are working on two different projects as well, meaning it’s impossible for them to speculate on a release date.At the end of last year, Sega announced that Creative Assembly would be focusing on strategy titles, following the cancellation of Hyenas.Total War: Star Wars isn’t the only strategy game currently in development either.

Total War: Warhammer 3 has just launched a new hotfix that, among other things, removes a randomly generated High Elf name that shared ties with a German general from World War Two.One of the randomly generated High Elf names, Guderian, is the surname of Heinz Guderian, a Nazi general. He led armoured divisions into Poland, France, and Russia, and was an early pioneer of the infamous blitzkrieg tactic employed by Germany to rapidly overwhelm countries in World War 2.Guderian rose to the role of Hitler’s personal advisor, but he ultimately surrendered to the U.S.

Total War: Pharaoh is receiving a new free DLC update as an apology to players.The new DLC allows players to play as ‘The Sea Peoples”, who are described as a faction that must “stay on the war path to survive” and need to constantly win battles in order to do this.Two new factions are also being added to the game: the Sherden and the Peleset. The Sherden use a new mechanic named Spoils of War to gain extra resources (such as the new resource Eminence) that you then use to build new camps to make your army stronger.Players who choose this faction can command new units such as the Nuraghe Warriors, who form a turtle-formation to protect themselves, Harpooners, who throw barbed javelins, and Sherden Archers who use sulfur-tipped arrows to set your enemies alight.The second faction is the Peleset, a faction that can both take over cities on the campaign map and pitch camp.

Creative Assembly, the developer of Total War, has announced that this week’s cancellation of Hyenas has led to layoffs.Sega Sammy stated that it expected “record losses of approximately 14.3 billion yen [£78.6million]” in this fiscal year and as a result, “structural reforms aimed at increasing efficiency” were necessary.Hyenas had a closed beta last month, signifying that the sci-fi extraction shooter was approaching a potential release in some shape or form. Total War: Pharaoh has had to push its launch on the Epic Games Store to “early 2024”, with Creative Assembly stating that it is as “disappointed” as the fans are.This is in order to introduce “additional social functions” to the game, and the team will require a more flexible time frame to fulfil those features.Fans had realised that their pre-orders through the Epic Games Store for Total War: Pharaoh had been refunded, signalling that some sort of update from Creative Assembly was on the way.“We apologise to all our fans whose plans are affected by this news. Know that we’re disappointed too, and that we otherwise look forward to welcoming you into Ancient Egypt early next year,” continued the post to Total War‘s official X account.The game’s launch on Steam and Mac is unaffected and Total War: Pharaoh will arrive on October 11.

Meanwhile, Total War‘s historical entries stick to realistic units rooted in their respective game’s time period, meaning there’s less choice on paper as players select different variations of human soldiers.When asked if this meant Creative Assembly had to work harder to make units in its historical games stand out, Todor Nikolov told NME that making a Bronze Age Total War game was “definitely a challenge”.“A lot of the ordinary military technology that we know of has not yet been invented.

But the historical strategy has a new feature: the Egyptian Court, which lets Total War fans try their hand at politics.Here, players can gain favour with the court’s most influential figures – such as its religious head or treasurer – in return for powerful rewards, or plot to blackmail rivals and even usurp their position.

Creative Assembly has confirmed that it is working on a “brand new Total War title”, and is looking for a release manager to help launch the game.In a job listing posted to Creative Assembly’s website, the studio advertises that it is looking for a release manager to handle the “delivery and release” of an upcoming project.While outlining the role’s day-to-day responsibilities, Creative Assembly says the successful applicant will “work on a brand new Total War title setting up the processes for a release and beyond.”Elsewhere, a job listing for a senior VFX artist says that the role will involve working on “exciting new projects in our Total War franchise” – though that could encompass upcoming downloadable content for Warhammer 3.Creative Assembly is yet to announce the name or setting of its next Total War game, but it also has several other projects in development. Last July, another job listing from the studio revealed that it was working on a “ground-breaking” third-person action game that appears to be set in the Warhammer universe.Creative Assembly’s next upcoming game is Hyenas, a multiplayer shooter that tasks players with competing for Sega merch.Earlier in the month, the studio also reiterated its support for Total War: Warhammer 3, which launched last year.

Total War: Warhammer 3 update will let players turn on all in-game apocalyptic events at once, if they fancy fighting off as many endgame scenarios as possible. Coming in update 2.1, which is scheduled for September 6, is the “Ultimate Crisis Mode” which lets players enable as few or as many endgame scenarios as they please (via PC Gamer).“Following the addition of various end-game scenarios to the game, Update 2.1 will add a toggleable option to trigger all end-game scenarios in the same save game if you so desire. Creative Assembly is developing a new triple-A melee combat game and is currently hiring for new roles.According to Creative Assembly’s careers page, shared via Reddit, the Total War developer is  currently looking for a senior combat designer for a “new project” set in a medieval fantasy setting, who will “contribute to delivering world-class combat gameplay and emotion.”The job role also indicated that the hired developer will  need to bring their “in-depth understanding and passion for 3rd person melee combat coupled with experience in designing, developing and balancing combat systems.”It’s unclear at this time whether the new project  will be  a new Total War game, but the specifications also add that it’s desirable if the hired developer has familiar  knowledge with “previous Total War games, especially Total War: Warhammer.”Additionally, Creative Assembly clarifies that it’s essential the hired person will need to have a “deep understanding of third-person action melee combat  as both  a designer and  a  player” as well as good knowledge of “motion and animation design.”It’s also stated that the new project will need someone who has experience delivering a Game as a Service – meaning the mystery title will likely include monetized features.Creative Assembly has yet to publicly announce it’s developing a new triple-A title and seeing as how it’s still looking for a senior combat designer, progress is likely in the early stages.Last month, Sega announced Hyenas, a new multi-platform multiplayer shooter from the Total War developer.

Alien: Isolation developer Creative Assembly is currently working on an unannounced science-fiction first-person shooter (FPS) game, and has shared brief details on what it will involve.Creative Assembly studio director Gareth Edmondson and creative director Alistair Hope broke the news in the most recent issue of Edge Magazine (via GamesRadar), the “as-yet-unnamed” game has been in the works for around four years, since 2018.The upcoming game has a “drive for attention to detail and authenticity” and will absolutely adhere to “understanding the source material,” although what that source material is was not revealed.“It’s our new IP, and it’s a world that we’re creating, and of course we’re wringing our hands over it and we really want to get that right,” added chief product officer Rob Bartholomew. “We want to understand what authenticity in a blue ocean or an open sky looks like, when you’ve got a blank page in front of you.”Creative Assembly is best known for its real-time strategy Total War series, although the studio also developed 2014’s Alien: Isolation, a first-person horror game set in the canon of the Alien film franchise.

Total War: Warhammer 3 developer Creative Assembly has gone into detail on what fans can expect from the upcoming Immortal Empires update, which will merge each map from the Total War: Warhammer series into one playable campaign.In a blog shared yesterday (June 14), Creative Assembly has shared that it is aiming to launch a beta for Immortal Empires in August 2022.Besides combining maps in the style of Total War: Warhammer 2‘s Mortal Empires campaign, Creative Assembly has also detailed several “new features and approaches” that will debut in Immortal Empires.This includes changes to some of the series’ older factions: 29 older Legendary Lords will be given new starting locations, while certain Lords such as Grombrindal, Helman Ghorst and Volkmar the Grim will be given their own faction. A “selection” of these older Lords will also be launched with improvements to the mechanics they bring.Furthermore, Total War: Warhammer 3‘s antagonist Be’Lakor will be given his own faction in Immortal Empires.

Creative Assembly has shared that it is “extensively testing” anti-piracy software Denuvo to see how much of an impact it’s having on Total War: Warhammer 3, following reports of poor performance.In a Steam post shared yesterday (March 3), Creative Assembly has updated fans on its progress on making the game more stable.As well as outlining what the team is working on, Creative Assembly acknowledged that Denuvo has been a “divisive topic of discussion” since the launch of Total War: Warhammer 3, as fans have accused the unpopular software of causing performance issues in the game.The studio said that although it is “extensively testing the product to determine its full impact on the game,” there are some “misconceptions” it aims to clear up.Creative Assembly goes on to clarify that Denuvo was included in pre-release builds send out to critics and content creators, and “was not purposefully omitted and then later added for the sake of the reviews.”The studio added that Denuvo has been included in previous Total War games, though clarified that “this does not absolve it of any potential issues it is causing,” and “there may be some other factor at the heart of the problem that you/we can explore together.”“The impact of Denuvo on performance is not yet conclusive. Many players have presented evidence both ways, and there are likely to be many factors that weigh into the conversation.

NME, Creative Assembly has revealed that it’s “not ruling anything in or out” in terms of future factions it’s looking to add to Total War: Warhammer 3.In an interview with NME, Jim Watson – lead designer for Total War: Warhammer 3 – was asked about Creative Assembly’s plans for Nagash and Thanquol, and if more obscure races could make their way into the final game.“We’re not ruling anything in or out at this stage,” answered Watson. “The stated intention – right from the first game – was that we want to do everything because we’re incredibly greedy.
