An urgent rescue operation has been launched to evacuate nearly 50 vulnerable pensioners by boat after a retirement village was flooded by raging Storm Christoph.

Emergency services rushed to Weaver Court in Northwich, Cheshire, when it was left without any electricity or heating due to heavy flooding on Thursday morning.

Vulnerable residents, some suffering from dementia, became trapped after their homes were submerged in more than five feet of water.

Storm Christoph has battered large swathes of the UK today heavy rain and snow leading to thousands of homes being evacuated in Wales, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Yorkshire and Derbyshire Cheshire Fire and Rescue and Cheshire West and Cheshire Council have spearheaded a rescue mission to
