Stirling MSP backs Ukrainian aid package as locals show concern over conflict

Stirling MSP Evelyn Tweed has welcomed humanitarian aid packages from Scotland aimed at helping those fleeing the Ukraine conflict.The package of measures, totalling around £4 million worth of support, from the Scottish Government will provide support for basic assistance in areas such as health, water and sanitation and officials are discussing the best route for this support to reach those most in need.Alongside the financial support, the package of aid will also provide key medical supplies for the frontline in the Eastern European country including anaesthetic machines, syringe pumps and bandages.The provision are based on a list of medical equipment described as urgently needed by those on the ground via the Ukrainian Consulate in Edinburgh.Ms Tweed said her office had been contacted by a number of consituents concerned about the escalating situation and called for more action from governments to help support those affected by the conflict.She said: “Over the last week I have received contact from a number of constituents who are very concerned about the events unfolding in Ukraine.“I am aware this is something many people in Scotland feel passionately about, myself included.“Scotland has given its compassionate support for Ukraine as it fights for its sovereignty and independence in the face of the Russian regime, and I am pleased to see the Scottish Government providing this initial £4million in financial aid to help innocent Ukrainians caught up in this war.“In times of great struggle, showing support for other countries in need is not merely about words, it is about action. “I hope the UK Government will follow the rest of the EU in its commitment to helping the people fleeing Ukraine to find safe refuge, and do
