Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has backed former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard to take over at Leeds United.The ex-Aston Villa boss is currently out of a job after being sacked by the Birmingham club last year following a poor start to the season.

Since being given his marching orders at Villa Park in October 2022 Gerrard has been linked with a number of roles, including the Poland national team after Czeslaw Michniewicz stepped down in December.Leeds are on the look out for a new boss after sacking American Jesse Marsch following a poor run of results.

Rayo Vallecano head coach Andoni Iraola and Feyenoord's Arne Slot emerged as favourites for the Leeds job after another reported target, Carlos Corberan, signed a new contract with West Brom on Tuesday night.

Iraola was refused permission to speak to the Premier League club, while Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has also been linked. Now former River Plate boss Marcelo Gallardo is also one of the names in the mix, according to reports in Argentina.
