Former Rangers hero Barry Ferguson has told Michael Beale he should have "body swerved" a row with Chris Sutton. Beale, who refused to name the former Celtic striker, described Record Sport columnist Sutton as a “comedy act” and the “worst ever player” to turn out for his boyhood heroes Chelsea.

The Ibrox boss was responding to comments made by Sutton on the BBC as he posed the question of whether Beale would have gifted Celtic a goal if Malik Tillman netted a controversial strike against them in a similar fashion to Partick Thistle in the Scottish Cup.Former Ibrox captain Ferguson insists Beale should not have taken aim at the former Parkhead star - and not even made reference to Sutton in his media conference ahead of facing Livingston in the Scottish Premiership.

He told the Go Radio Football Show: "He is clearly annoyed Michael Beale about it but I would have body swerved it and not even spoke about what Chris Sutton said." Fellow pundit Mark Guidi had insisted that Walter Smith would not have responded to pundits comments, and Ferguson added: "In terms of what Mark says about Walter Smith, I'm sure Walter Smith would have waited to get him alone in a room somewhere or wherever in a stadium.

When I saw the comments from Michael Beale I did think there is no need to get involved with Chris Sutton."Follow Record Sport on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for all of the up-to-the minute breaking news, video and audio on the SPFL, the Scotland national team and beyond. You can also follow our dedicated Rangers and Celtic podcast pages and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season.
