breast cancer 14 years earlier. Over the years I’d lost my hair and eyebrows, gained weight and developed nasty hot flushes when one of the drugs I was put on induced menopause.
I’d also lost both breasts, one of my lungs had collapsed, and I’d suffered excruciating pain after developing an allergy to painkillers.
My marriage had ended too and my self-esteem had plummeted. Friends had rallied round, but at times I’d felt very alone. I was devastated.My four kids [aged from 17 to 37] all took the news badly, but my youngest, Jack, who was still living at home, reacted the worst.
He’d been so cuddly with me when he was little, but he couldn’t even look me in the eye when I told him the cancer had spread.
