Pub bosses say they will miss out on selling 14million pints for St Patrick’s Day this year due to lockdown restrictions.They warned the industry will lose a whopping £54million from the loss of beer sales in Britain on Wednesday, March 17, as boozers are shut.
Revellers can not even buy takeaway pints of Guinness to mark the annual event celebrating the patron saint of Ireland.Watering holes can only sell food for takeaway under the coronavirus restrictions.The British Beer and Pub Association argued it makes it even more urgent they fully reopen on June 21, when all restrictions are due to be lifted.Emma McClarkin, chief executive of the group, said: “A pint in the pub on St Patrick’s Day is always a joyous occasion, but sadly this year.
