A man has been found not guilty of killing his dad following a week-long trial as his family applauded from the public gallery.
Joseph McGowan, 20, was accused of the murder of his dad Darren McGowan following an incident in their home in Stockport in April this year.
Prosecutors alleged that in the early hours of the morning, three people had left the house after a row developed between the two men.
Jurors were told that Joseph McGowan ‘lost his temper’ and grabbed his 51-year-old father in a chokehold or ‘headlock’. He then called 999, and told the operator that he ‘wasn’t breathing’, before later telling attending police officers: “Me and my dad were arguing and I don’t know what to do.
