Sir Alex Ferguson told Wayne Rooney to get out of his office after showdown talks about his Manchester United future in 2010.

Rooney infamously revealed he wanted to leave Old Trafford as the club were not, in his opinion, matching his ambitions. "I met with David Gill [United's chief executive] last week and he did not give me any of the assurances I was seeking about the future squad," Rooney said in a statement at the time. "I then told him that I would not be signing a new contract."United's greatest ever goalscorer cited the club's inability to keep hold of and acquire new top talent as the reason behind his desire to leave.

And Rooney has now revealed the inside story of the saga in his new documentary, Rooney, whichis available to watch on Amazon Prime Video from Friday 11th February. "We sold Tevez, then we sold Ronaldo and I was the one player left of high profile", he told the programme. "I went into Sir Alex Ferguson's office and said 'what is the plan here?

We have brought in two young English players who are unproven.'"I remember Alex's response was 'get out of my office!'"Should Rooney have left United in 2010?
