Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson has said he regrets not bringing Paul Gascoigne to Old Trafford more than any player.
Alan Shearer, Gareth Bale, Ronaldinho and Eden Hazard were but a few world-class names who were strongly linked with United during Fergie's tenure, but it is Gascoigne he regrets not signing the most.
After arriving from Aberdeen, Ferguson was searching the transfer market for suitable additions to help build him rebuild United and thought a deal with Gazza was all agreed upon.
But, after the midfielder agreed to the move, allowing United's most successful-ever manager to go on his holiday, Tottenham made a late play and ended up signing him for a record British fee of £2.2million.
