Second West Lothian leisure centre torched just days after fire gutted Broxburn pool

Officers are appealing for information after a fire at a second disused leisure centre in Livingston just days after Broxburn swimming pool was gutted by a blaze.The former Xcite swimming pool on Almondvale Parkway was set alight shortly after 11pm last night (Monday).The fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and no one was injured.It’s being treated as having been started deliberately and enquiries are ongoing.It comes just days after Broxburn swimming pool was destroyed by another deliberate fire.Dozens of firefighters battled a huge blaze that destroyed Broxburn leisure centre on Saturday evening.

Black plumes of smoke could be seen for miles and fire crews battled the blaze for three hoursPolice say they are “keeping an open mind” as to whether the two fires are linked.Detective Inspector Keith Sinclair said: “We would urge anyone with information or who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area to get in touch.“We would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam or private CCTV footage from the area.“Our enquiries into a similar incident at Broxburn Xcite swimming pool on Saturday, 23 March remains ongoing and at this stage we cannot say whether these incidents are linked, although we are keeping an open mind.“Deliberately setting fires is extremely dangerous and can lead to very serious consequences as fires has quickly run out of control.
