Westhoughton High School in Bolton is among 10 schools in the country to join the clinical trial, which means that students who are classed as close contacts of a positive case are able to remain in school.
At the moment anyone testing positive for Covid needs to isolate for 10 days and anyone identified as a close contact of that person needs to do the same.
In some schools this has meant small groups of pupils being sent home, but in others, contact tracing is not as easy and dozens have been sent
