Sam Smith has issued a public statement after their concert was suddenly cancelled during the performance at the AO Arena in Manchester on Wednesday night (May 24).
The singer, who was performing their 'Gloria the tour' to a packed out audience at the arena, had performed four songs before going off stage for some time.
The lights temporarily dimmed with some brief speculation online from fans there had been a 'power cut' before thousands were told the show had ended due to 'vocal issues' and to leave the arena. READ MORE: Join the FREE Manchester Evening News WhatsApp community Following the incident, which fans said left them 'gutted' and 'fuming', the singer posted a statement explaining that they had recently battled a virus and that there was 'something wrong' with their voice, adding they were 'heartbroken' at being unable to finish.
In an Instagram story, the singer wrote: "Dearest sailors, I don't know what to say honestly. I fought off a virus a few weeks ago and since then we have travelled across Europe and had such incredible shows. "Today in soundcheck I felt fine and was so excited to give Manchester an amazing show tonight, with a special surprise at the end. "During my third song, I noticed something wrong with my voice.
