Sainsbury’s has been urged to reconsider plans to close its store in Stockport town centre.MP Nav Mishra has written to the retail giant’s chief executive Simon Roberts, asking him to think again about shutting the supermarket on Warren Street.In the letter he raises concerns that the decision will have an impact on thousands of people - not least the 87 employees who are facing potential redundancy just weeks before Christmas.It states: “In the middle of a pandemic and in precarious economic circumstances, this is incredibly worrying news, and I would urge you to reconsider.”Twelve months ago, Sainsbury’s announced it would close up to 15 supermarkets over the next two years, while opening 10 new stores over the next five years.Bosses say.
