Sadiq Khan has announced plans for a new taskforce to tackle the digital divide in London. The London Mayor has allocated £1.5 million over two years to assess levels of digital exclusion - mapping out the need for devices and connectivity across the capital.
The Government promised to hand out 1.3million laptops to families without access to the devices children need to learn from home.
But hundreds of thousands of children are still missing out, as the latest figures show around 876,000 have been delivered so far.
Between 1.14 million and 1.78 million children lack access to a laptop, desktop or tablet at home – and more than 880,000 only have a mobile internet connection at home, according to Ofcom.
