Manchester United and Roma are in talks about extending Chris Smalling's loan deal beyond this season. The centre-half headed to Italy last summer and has impressed at the Stadio Olympico.
Talk of a permanent transfer has emerged with Smalling surplus to requirements at Old Trafford. Smalling has his deal extended until August 2 but was due to return to Manchester.
Roma though are now looking to extend the players' loan into next season and inserted a £13m purchase clause according to Football Italia.
United though had originally wanted £25m for the player but are prepared to lower their valuation slightly. Roma adviser Franco Baldini is though to have offered United a £2.5m loan fee for next season.
