Arsenal have leapfrogged Roma in the race to sign out of favour Manchester United defender Chris Smalling this summer, according to reports from Italy.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saw no future for Smalling at Old Trafford so farmed him out to the Serie A side, where he performed well and earned a cult following.
But Roma have all but ended their interest in signing the 30-year-old and have decided to pursue a cheaper deal for Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren instead.
Smalling would prefer a return to the Premier League with his next move and is seems that United’s price tag of the player is out of Paulo Fonseca side's reach anyway.
