Rod Stewart almost had to pull out of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee concert at the last minute after losing his voice. The Maggie May star performed Sweet Caroline at the event – apparently because it's the monarch's favourite – but it seems it came close to not happening after the backstage drama.

Speaking on Loose Women, Penny said Rod's voice was affected after he had Covid. Asked if it was true that Rod almost had to pull out at the last minute, she said: "Yeah, I mean it was very very touch and go.""He was so nervous leading up to it," added the model and TV star. She explained to the panellists: "He was three weeks in Vegas and caught Covid.

Came home, it was past the 10 day period of being contagious but he had lost his voice."So the soundcheck on the Wednesday, he went along and for precaution wore a mask, had no voice."He went for another rehearsal on the Friday, it was touch and go."His voice is there now but it wasn't quite on," she said. However, Penny said her hubby "didn't want to disappoint everyone" and he went ahead with the show, performing to thousands of excited people outside of Buckingham Palace."It wasn't the Rod Stewart show, it was the show for the nation, for the Queen, for everyone to come together," said the blonde.During the concert, Rod performed some of his hits as well as Sweet Caroline, which a few of the young royals sang along to.The song is actually originally by Neil Diamond. And when Rod, 77, started to croon it at the concert he apparently told the crowd: "The BBC made me sing this one."
