Television presenter Richard Madeley has finally shed some light today on his recent absence from his usual spot on Good Morning Britain.

Viewers of the show have been wondering why the hosting regular has been missing from the early-morning news show, with Ed Balls having been taking his place alongside Susanna Reid.

But fans of Richard, 66, were delighted to see him return to screens today, where he revealed on live television that he'd been involved in a "freak accident", which had left him unable to present the show.The father-of-two told viewers he was left in hospital needing stitches after a car door slammed into his face. "I was crouching down on a slope between my open car door," he filled fans in today. "and I turned round as the car door decided to close itself.
