Rescue teams are searching the Manchester Ship Canal for a seventh day after a man entered the water. Emergency services descended on Irlam Locks, in Salford, at 8.40pm last Thursday evening (December 5) following concerns for a man's welfare.
Police and fire crews were seen lining Cadishead Way while a helicopter was used above the scene. Specialist officers returned to Irlam Locks the following morning, and the search has continued in the days since.

Various equipment has been used during the search, including drones. One eyewitness living close to the scene described how police arrived 'all at once' last Thursday night, adding: "It's very sad." Another resident, who told the Manchester Evening News he used to work on Irlam Locks for more than 40 years, said: "The water is 30ft deep - and freezing cold." A GMP spokesperson said last Friday: "At around 8.30pm last night (Thursday, December 5 2024), emergency services responded to reports of a male in the water at Irlam Locks in Trafford.
