Prince William was the nation's heartthrob at the age of 18, the golden boy who had grown up in the public eye after the loss of his mum Diana.

But he lost all his charm and seductive ways when he first laid eyes on his future wife Kate Middleton, who then was nothing more than a fellow History of Art student at the University of St Andrews in Scotland.

The pair met for the first time in 2001 at university, where William had gone after a gap year following his rigorous education at Eton.
