Red Bull have been left spurned by the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) in their attempts to sign Colton Herta next season.

The American racer had big hopes of reaching the F1 and has already taken steps toward realising that dream. Earlier this year, he had tested with McLaren while he already has a fine history with IndyCar, where he has won seven races.

But plans to place him at AlphaTauri have been abandoned by Red Bull, who look like they have failed to convince the FIA to go ahead with the move. The FIA have insisted that Herta lacks the required number of points to land an F1 superlicense while Red Bull had hoped that they might look the other way in terms of certain regulations, which the sporting body has refused to do.What it means for Pierre Gasly remains to be seen, with the Frenchman's move to Alpine now in jeopardy.
