Joe Biden pledged to be "a president who seeks not to divide but to unify" in his first speech as United States president-elect.
During his speech, he spoke about his wife, children and the rest of his family who have been by his side, supporting him during the presidential campaign.
The Democratic candidate clinched victory after winning the key battleground of Pennsylvania on Saturday - some four days after polls closed - pushing him over the 270 electoral college votes threshold.
A little earlier, Mr Trump, who is refusing to concede and has claimed - without providing any evidence - that Democrats are "trying to steal the election", left the White House to play golf.
