Premier League statement explains Everton penalty decision and disallowed goal vs Man Utd

The Premier League have moved quickly to clarify why Everton's late goal against Manchester United was disallowed. Dominic Calvert-Lewin put the ball in the back of the net via a deflection and for a brief moment thought he had won all three points for his side.

But the goal was chalked off due to Gylfi Sigurdsson's positioning. The playmaker had been wiped out in the build up and was lying on the turf in front of David de Gea .

Sigurdsson moved his legs to let the ball go into the back of the net but it was deemed that he had directly impacted the United shot-stopper's ability to make a save.
