Premier League 'set date for 2020/21 season' as pressure mounts on current campaign

The Premier League will reportedly tell clubs at Thursday's shareholders' meeting that they want the next season to start by the weekend of September 12-13.

Irrespective of how long it takes to complete the current campaign, it is believed that bosses do not want to hang around by delaying the 2020-21 season.

There is hope that Phase One of Project Restart will lead to the season being able to resume next month with safe coronavirus precautions in place.

The most recent round of Covid-19 tests has returned optimistic results and it is now believed that the remaining 92 top flight games can be played out by the end of July.
