Premier League make huge referee decision after Man United vs Chelsea red card and VAR controversy

Rob Jones, the referee who chose not to send off Manchester United star Lisandro Martinez for his late tackle on Cole Palmer in Sunday afternoon's 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, has only been appointed to fourth official duties for the upcoming weekend.

Not recommended to review the challenge in stoppage time, Jones allowed Martinez to stay on the pitch despite a high challenge on the Chelsea and England man.

The decision has split opinion, with Gary Neville claiming it should have been overturned, while ex-Premier League referee Mike Dean felt the yellow card was ample punishment.

Michael Salisbury, acting as VAR at Stockley Park for the match, checked the incident but didn't deem it worthy of anything more than a simple booking.
