German police probing Madeleine McCann’s disappearance are sifting through over 800 new tip-offs after a TV appeal. Detectives hope the leads are “the final piece in the jigsaw” after naming paedophile Christian Brueckner as prime suspect.
Information flooded in following a nationwide appeal last month on German channel ZDF. And Christian Hoppe, of the country’s federal office of criminal investigations, said it had yielded new lines of inquiry.
Mr Hoppe declined to comment on whether the information was sufficient to charge Brueckner, 43. He also renewed a plea for information about a Portuguese mobile phone, registered in drifter Brueckner’s name, which had the number 351-912-730-680.
