Detectives investigating a mass stabbing in Southport have been granted more time to question the 17-year-old suspect. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder after the knife attack at a children's Taylor Swift-themed dance event on Hart Street on Monday.
Three girls – Alice Dasilva Aguiar, nine, Bebe King, six, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven – were fatally stabbed, while eight other children suffered knife wounds – five of whom are in a critical condition.
Two adults were also critically hurt. Merseyside Police confirmed today that detectives have now been granted more time to quiz the boy. The law allows officers up to 96 hours, or four days, to hold a suspect in custody for serious crimes. The families of the three girls who lost their lives continue to be supported by specialist officers.
