Police issue update after 'serious' incident causes huge traffic queues on three motorways

A motorcyclist has been rushed to hospital following a 'serious' crash near Simister Island. Drivers have faced widespread disruption across the M60, M62 and M66 this morning (December 18) following the collision near Bury at around 7.09am.

Greater Manchester Police said the crash involved a car and a motorbike. The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening, GMP added.

The northbound M66 was closed for around 45 minutes between Simister Island and Pilsworth following the crash. The incident also led to long delays on the M60 and M62. Traffic was unable to join the M66 from the M60 clockwise for around two hours. Images from the crash scene showed several police vehicles in attendance, along with an ambulance.
