Police issue update after Market Street taped off at tram stop

A man was taken to hospital following a medical emergency at Market Street tram stop. Part of Manchester's busiest shopping street was taped off on Thursday night (September 5), near to Piccadilly Gardens.

Police were seen in attendance alongside paramedics. Transport for Greater Manchester said Metrolink services had been hit by a police incident.

In an update issued this morning (Friday), Greater Manchester Police confirmed the incident was a medical emergency. Police were called out to the scene by North West Ambulance Service at 8.30pm. Eyewitnesses reported seeing police and paramedics in front of a stationary tram on Market Street. Pictures from the scene showed a paramedic car, an ambulance and a number of police vehicles at the scene.
