The death of a man whose body was pulled from a north Manchester river five days ago remains a mystery. A cordon was put in place by the River Irk off Middleton Road, in Blackley, on Saturday morning (February 1).

Emergency services were called out to the scene at around 9am after the discovery had been made by a member of the public. Investigations into the cause of the man's death have been taking place in the days since his body was found.

In an update issued today (February 6), Greater Manchester Police confirmed his cause of death is 'unascertained at this time'.

Police are currently unable to determine if the circumstances are suspicious. The investigation remains ongoing, GMP says. A large cordon was put up at the scene on Saturday, with a blue forensic tent on the riverbank.
