Plans to spend £13m to expand and relocate 'outstanding' Tameside special school get green light

Members of the executive cabinet have agreed to move Hawthorns School to the Longdendale Playing Field site, in Mottram in Longdendale.

Hawthorns School is a primary age special school currently located on Lumb Lane in Audensaw, which caters for pupils with a range of ‘complex’ special educational needs.

Bosses want to open the new building, which will accommodate 220 places, by September 2023. The cost of expanding and relocating the school is budgeted at £13m which will come from basic needs funding.
