The former lobbyist, 53, contracted coronavirus back in March 2020 and entered a coma as his condition deteriorated. It has been touch and go for Derek ever since and he is now the country’s longest-fighting Covid-19 patient.
Piers recalled the first time he heard about the news and admitted his heart bleeds for Kate as she continues to live in a "terrible limbo".
