‘Didn’t realise’ Ugo Monye left in tears over discovery about Strictly’s Rose Ayling-Ellis
Ugo Monye explained to Express.co.uk how he “didn’t realise” that he could connect to dance in such an emotional way until Rose Ayling-Ellis’ Strictly performance with her partner Giovanni Pernice left him in tears. The rugby star, 38, has teamed up with Boots UK for the second series of the health and wellbeing podcast Taboo Talk, where he discusses the topic of chronic pain with host Vogue Williams.Ugo, who was paired up with Oti Mabuse for the latest season of Strictly Come Dancing, has recalled the iconic moment that Rose, 27, and Giovanni, 31, performed a dance that allowed audiences to enter Rose’s world.Rose, who was the show’s first ever deaf contestant, chose to feature a moment of silence during their pair’s performance to Symphony by Clean Bandit and Zara Larsson.Speaking about how “exposing” it can be to reveal your emotions as both a man and an athlete, Ugo admitted that Strictly Come Dancing left a lasting impression on him emotionally.“I knew that doing Strictly could be really exposing - and I don't mean physically, where I had my top off in a couple of the dances and dressed like Pink Panther and stuff like that,” he began.“But I remember going to the final, where I was sitting with Oti, and when I watched Rose dance - she had that kind of stop-traffic moment, iconic dance - I was crying. “I was crying watching it live and I'd seen it before,” Ugo confirmed.“I remember saying to Oti at the time, and to a few of my friends, that I didn't realise that dance can have an impact in the way in which it did on me that night. “So what I took from it was: it's really important to try different things that you know might not be familiar or might be out of your comfort zone, because you just don't know how they'll

Weakest Link viewers left baffled as Ugo Monye has 'unusual' tactic on BBC show
The Weakest Link were left totally confused by Strictly Come Dancing star Ugo Monye when he deployed a very unusual tactic during the show.Ugo joined his celebrity teammates in answering questions on the hit BBC quiz show as host Romesh Ranganathan put them through their paces with his general knowledge questions. The former rugby player was struggling to think of the answer when he was quizzed on a quote from '90s Rom Com Jerry Maguire when he stunned viewers by putting on a baffling display.Putting his sporting prowess to the test Ugo, 38, bizarrely began squatting as he tried to summon up the answer to the question from his mind.Finding the move baffling viewers took to Twitter to discuss their confusion. One social media user wrote: "#Theweakestlink why is Ugo doing squats?!"Another added: "Is Ugo trying to distract us from the fact he just doesn't know the answer here?"A third continued: "What is Ugo doing? I don't understand. Does he need the toilet?"Another viewer noted: "Ugo is giving some shocking answers #theweakestlink."Sadly for Ugo, the squatting wasn't of much benefit to him as his failure to answer the question correctly led to his fellow contestants giving him the boot and he was voted off as The Weakest Link at the end of the round.Giving him the push Romesh said: "Ugo, you've got an interesting way of trying to squat your way to the answer."Seeing the funny side the sports pundit joked: "I'm taking muscle memory to another dimension."Ugo then admitted he was dreading checking his phone when people had seen his performance on the show.He explained: "When you do badly your phone blows up, it goes viral.

Strictly’s Ugo Monye admits ‘there's not a moment where I’m not in pain’ ahead of surgery
Strictly star, 38, has teamed up with Boots UK for the second series of the health and wellbeing podcast Taboo Talk, where he discusses the topic of chronic pain with host Vogue Williams. In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Ugo described the pain he feels on a daily basis, as well as addressing why pain is such a taboo subject in the sporting world. When quizzed on the subject of pain, Ugo began: “I think we have almost a slight strained relationship with it. “Playing a physical contact sport you become adapted to pain, don't you? But messages you get on the pitch… If you've been tackled hard in any sense, your competitive instinct is to get back up because you don't want to let anyone down. “You want to be able to do your best for the team and just contribute as much as you can, and I only ever spent 80 minutes on a pitch - but those behaviours become part of your day to day.”Ugo went on to reveal that he suffers from chronic back pain, a health issue that made his time on Strictly Come Dancing particularly difficult.“Now I've been retired for six years, dealing with chronic back pain has just become part of my norm,” Ugo admitted. He went on to share that he would be undergoing surgery to try and lessen the pain, which he had at the start of this week.“I'm actually having back surgery on Monday and my symptoms...” he began. “I mean, there's not a moment of the day where I'm not in pain.  “And because it's been a number of months now, you just become used to it,” Ugo explained. He went on to discuss how athletes, and particularly men, struggle to open up about the pain they are experiencing.“But then dealing with it: that's the next hurdle.
