U.S. Halts $175 Million for UPenn Over Trans Athlete
Lia Thomas to compete in 2022.Thomas originally competed for the men’s swim team but competed on the women’s team following her transition. She complied with what NCAA regulations regarding transgender athlete eligibility were at the time, undergoing hormone therapy for a year before competing. In 2022, Thomas began breaking school and meet records, becoming the first transgender woman to win an NCAA swimming championship medal in the Division I women’s 500-yard freestyle event. She also placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle — tying with Riley Gaines, who has since marshaled her anger over Thomas’ participation into becoming an anti-transgender activist — and eighth in the 100-yard freestyle at the championships.Since taking office, President Trump has promised to direct the Department of Education to investigate schools that allow (or have allowed) transgender athletes to compete on sports teams aligning with their gender identity.Trump made that promise to investigate specific colleges with known cases of transgender athletes while signing an executive order barring transgender females from competing in girls’ and women’s sports. That order threatens to strip funds away from those schools, allowing transgender athletes to participate on female-designated sports teams. The federal money — which came from the Defense Department and the Department of Health and Human Services — was suspended in a separate review of discretionary federal money going to universities, according to a White House official, reports The Associated Press.A senior White House official confirmed to NBC News that the agencies paused the funds specifically because of Thomas’ 2022 participation.

Republicans join Democrats to Defeat Anti-Drag, Anti-Trans Bills
House Bill 675, sponsored by Rep. Caleb Hinkle (R-Belgrade), which sought to ban drag performances and Pride parades in Montana.Hinkle previously sponsored a ban on public performances of a “sexual nature” that was specifically intended to target drag shows and Drag Queen Story Hour-type events (even if they do not contain sexually explicit content). The ban was was struck down by a federal judge as unconstitutional in 2023 on the grounds that it was likely to be enforced against not only drag performers, but “any person who falls outside traditional gender and identity norms.”In his most recent version of the bill, Hinkle included a provision to allow private individuals to sue drag performers for $5,000, plus damages and attorney’s fees, if children are exposed to or attend a drag show — rather than relying on the government to enforce the law against performers.Hinkle’s bill described drag performers as adopting a “hypersexualized” persona, often incorporating “sensual dancing, provocative costuming, striptease, and adult humor” in their acts.Zephyr pushed back against that characterization, as well as past comments from Hinkle describing transgender identity as a “fetish based on crossdressing.”“At its very core, drag is art,” Zephyr said.

Texas Bill Would Make Identifying as Transgender a Crime
recent directive from Secretary of State Marco Rubio that would permanently ban transgender athletes from entering the United States for athletic competitions if they have identity documents with a gender marker that does not align with their assigned sex at birth. It also aligns with an executive order from President Donald Trump declaring that the federal government will only recognize two sexes — male and female — based on a person’s assigned sex at birth. It comes on the heels of a bill introduced last year that banned transgender residents from changing the gender marker on their drivers licenses or birth certificates to align with their gender identity. This year, Republican lawmakers have introduced a separate bill to ban gender-affirming care for all individuals, including adults, after successfully passing a ban on gender-affirming care for transgender youth two years ago.If passed, the bill could prove problematic for transgender individuals who have had some of their identity documents changed to reflect their gender identity. Moreover, regarding private employers, anybody seeking to have their gender identity recognized at work could be prosecuted under the law. Callie Butcher, the founder of Butcher Legal Group, a Dallas law firm that serves the LGBTQ community, told the Houston Chronicle that while she doesn’t believe Oliverson’s bill will pass, it is consistent with other bills introduced in Texas seeking to erase transgender identity and restrict freedom of expression.

State Dept. Permanently Bans Trans Athletes from Entering U.S.
The Guardian instructs visa officers to enforce a section of the Immigration and Nationality Act that allows the United States to refuse entry to any visa applicant who commits identity fraud or misrepresents who they are.Unlike regular visa denials, anyone violating that section can be permanently refused entry to the United States, effectively constituting a lifelong ban.“In cases where applicants are suspected of misrepresenting their purpose of travel or sex, you should consider whether this misrepresentation is material such that it supports an ineligibility finding,” the directive from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reads. The directive comes in response to an executive order from President Donald Trump banning transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports. While signing the order, Trump directed Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to deny visas to “men attempting to fraudulently enter the United States while identifying themselves as women athletes” during the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.Trump also pledged that Rubio would tell the International Olympic Committee that America “will not stand by and watch men beat and batter female athletes.”Transgender athletes are already a rare occurrence due to the small percentage of the population that they comprise globally.

America First Legal Targets Virginia Schools for Pro-Trans Policies
claims the five school districts are violating President Donald Trump’s recent executive order preventing schools that receive federal funds from affirming trans students’ gender identities. The group says that if all five jurisdictions are found to have violated Title IX and still refuse to end their gender-affirming policies, then those school districts should be stripped of all federal funds. “In each of those school districts, a ‘gender expansive or transgender student’ has access to the sex-segregated common restrooms and locker rooms of the opposite sex because it is consistent with their ability to be safe and comfortable in their subjective sense of ‘gender identity,'” the complaint reads.“But when other students whose ‘gender identity’ is the same as their biological sex object on the grounds that they now feel unsafe and uncomfortable in the common sex-segregated restrooms and locker rooms that have traditionally been designated exclusively for their sex, those students’ only option is to use a private restroom or an alternative that ‘minimize[s] the loss of instructional time.’“In other words, the relevant policies provide greater rights to students whose ‘gender identity’ does not match their biological sex than it does to students whose ‘gender identity’ matches their biological sex.

boygenius musician Lucy Dacus fights Trump’s executive order on biological sex by donating to people seeking gender surgeries
Folk artist Lucy Dacus recently announced she is donating to individuals seeking transgender medical operations in an apparent attempt to get back at President Trump’s executive orders regarding gender and transgender individuals.Dacus, who is one-third of the Grammy-winning all-female music group “boygenius,” told her X followers on Wednesday that she will give $500 to each person who comments on her status with a link to donate to their transitions, up to $10,000.“If trans people wanna comment surgery gofundmes, I’m gonna give away 10k in $500 increments until it’s gone, & if other people wanna scroll through and make donations, please do,” Dacus wrote.“The government will never be the source of our validation or protection, we have to do it ourselves,” the singer added, signaling she made the offer as a political protest.Dacus’ post came two days after President Trump signed an executive order, titled, “Defending women from gender ideology extremism and restoring biological truth to the federal government.”The EO clarifies that it is U.S. policy to recognize two sexes, male and female and that men and women are biologically distinct, along with addressing how agencies should handle these directives.Left-wing critics slammed Trump’s order immediately.
