Coronation Street's Fred Elliot star John Savident's health battle including shock stabbing

Coronation Street legend John Savident, who played the lovable Fred Elliott, has sadly passed away at the age of 86. John was a favourite among fans for his role as the loud and proud butcher on the ITV soap, but off-screen he bravely battled health issues, which he openly discussed. His agent confirmed the sad news of his passing on Friday 23 February, saying: "We are sad to announce the death of the actor John Savident who died on Wednesday 21 February, he was a much-loved husband and father of two and will be sorely missed by all who knew him." John first appeared on the cobbles in 1994 and quickly won over viewers with his character's unlucky love life, including three marriages and several failed proposals.

Coronation Street star Will Mellor had The One Show fans in stitches after he recalled the horrific moment he accidentally put down a stranger’s cat.During Friday’s (April 1) instalment of the popular BBC One teatime talk show, Alex Jones and Alex Scott welcomed the Two Pints of Larger star onto the show alongside actors Suranne Jones, Ralf Little and Hollywood heartthrob Chris Pine.With a sofa full of animal lovers, Alex enquired on the star’s pets eagerly waiting to greet them at home, but viewers were shocked to hear about the 45-year-old's experience as a pet owner.The TV hunk confessed how he had a love/hate relationship with his Bengal cat after it ran away from home at a young age and didn’t come home for nine months.And the actor was devastated to learn that the cat has come home with throat cancer which forced the doting pet owner to put him down.Little did he know that he had accidentally put a stranger's cat down after his real cat came waltzing through the house just two weeks later.He told viewers: "That [picture] was when I was enjoying my cats when they were little and then that cat ran away. "He was a Bengal, and he didn't come back for nine months and then when he came back, he sadly had cancer of the throat."I was talking to the doctors and they said he had to be put down, so I was crying with my daughter when we put the cat down and had his ashes and then my cat walked through the door two weeks later."So I had put someone else's cat down," he explained as both presenters hung their head's in shame as they processed the horrific story on air.
