Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large On Sunday, “Everything Everywhere All at Once” appeared to be everything, everywhere, all at once. The film, of course, dominated the 95th Oscars with seven wins — including best picture. Virtually all the stars (except Stephanie Hsu — hey Daniels, can you spare one of your SIX Oscars and share one with her??) received wins, on what was truly a historic night. And an emotional one. As the opening clips of this week’s Variety Awards Circuit Podcast illustrates, family was on the minds of this year’s winners. Angela Bassett fans are supporting the actress after her reaction to losing the Oscar to Jamie Lee Curtis for Best Supporting Actress.

Angela Bassett did not reign victorious like her character Queen Ramonda from the "Black Panther" franchise at the 95th Academy Awards on Sunday. Bassett was nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category, but the award was given to Jamie Lee Curtis for her portrayal of Deirdre Beaubeirdre in the critically acclaimed, and Academy Award Best Picture winner, "Everything Everywhere All at Once." During the ceremony, cameras were focused on all five nominees as presenters Ariana DeBose and Troy Kotsur announced Curtis' name, much to her shock.

Michelle Yeoh became the first Asian woman to take home the best actress accolade at the Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday night.

Disney has released a new teaser trailer for its upcoming adaptation of Gene Luen Yang’s American Born Chinese starring Everything Everywhere All At Once‘s Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan and Stephanie Hsu.The teaser trailer focuses on Yeoh’s character warning that a “gate between Heaven and Earth is opening” with the fate of the world “hanging in balance.” The trailer also shows glimpses of several multiverse settings as well as Ke Huy Quan’s and Stephanie Hsu’s characters.American Born Chinese is set to arrive in Disney+ beginning May 24. Based on Gene Luen Yang’s 2006 graphic novel the same name, the series will tell the story of a teenager named Ben/Jin Wang who struggles as a Chinese immigrant in an American high school.Upon meeting a fellow foreign exchange student Wei-Chen, the two become embroiled in a historical battle of Chinese mythological gods, with themes of identity, culture and family woven in.Jin Wang will be played by young star Ben/Jin Wang, while his fellow exchange student Wei-Chen is played by Jim Liu.

Angela Bassett looked devastated when she lost out to win a 2023 Oscar for Best Supporting Actress - with the star's reaction going viral when Jamie Lee Curtis was announced the winner. Angela, 64, the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star, looked disappointed when her name wasn't called. Instead an overjoyed Curtis, also 64, screamed with happiness when she won her first-ever Oscar for Everything Everywhere All at Once.The Golden Globe winner's fellow nominees Hong Chau, 43, Kerry Condon, 40, and Stephanie Hsu, 32, were seen applauding Curtis on her win, however Angela didn't appear too impressed with her reaction quickly spreading on social media.

Everything Everywhere All At Once‘s Paul Rogers was clearly overwhelmed following the film’s Oscar win for Film Editing. “This is too much, wow, this is my second film y’all, this is crazy.” He went on to thank his wife, “the most incredible woman in the room,” his family, and cast.

Rihanna received a standing ovation for her performance of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever song ‘Lift Me Up’ at the Oscars 2023 tonight (March 12).The annual awards show is taking place at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre, where each of the Best Original Song nominees is performing their nominated track.Rihanna’s performance was introduced by Wakanda Forever star Danai Gurira, who used the moment to pay tribute to late Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman. “His powerful artistry, his magnetism and incomparable humanity left a mark on our hearts,” she said.

An elated duo known as The Daniels — Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert — took the prize for original screenplay at the Oscars on a crescendo of support for the tale of a Chinese immigrant family navigating an IRS audit of their laundromat, family relationships and interdimensional time travel in Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Lady Gaga delivered an emotional performance of ‘Hold My Hand’ from the Top Gun: Maverick soundtrack at the Oscars 2023.The annual awards show is taking place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles tonight (March 12), where each of the nominees for Best Original Song is performing.Gaga was not confirmed to perform before the ceremony got underway, although it was reported earlier today that she would appear. Taking to the stage unannounced, the star had changed from the dramatic black gown she sported on the red carpet into a simpler outfit of charcoal grey t-shirt and jeans.“I wrote this song with my friend BloodPop for the film Top Gun: Maverick in my studio basement,” she said, introducing the song from a stool.

David Byrne performed at the Oscars 2023 with the infamous hot dog fingers from this year’s most-nominated film, Everything Everywhere All At Once.Going into tonight’s (March 12) ceremony, the acclaimed movie had 11 nominations. At the time of writing, it has won two awards – Best Supporting Actor for Ke Huy Quan and Best Supporting Actress for Jamie Lee Curtis.Byrne, Son Lux and Mitski contributed the song ‘This Is A Life’ to the soundtrack of Everything Everywhere All At Once, which is nominated for Best Original Song.

Backstage at Sunday’s Academy Awards, first-time winner Jamie Lee Curtis offered her thoughts on Hollywood’s historic tendency to separate award nominees into binary categories based on gender.

The Oscar-nominated Original Song nominees were front and center at the Oscars on Sunday, including the first Indian song to be nominated in the category: “Naatu Naatu” from RRR.

Lady Gaga took her time at the 2023 Oscars red carpet on Sunday, stopping to share a kiss with star Brendan Gleeson, before heading in for her scheduled ceremony performance. Gaga made a last-minute decision to sing «Hold My Hand,» her Oscar-nominated single from the  soundtrack at Sunday's ceremony. The singer initially announced she could not perform because of an overbooked schedule, but announced the morning of the show that she would attend after all. Lady Gaga graced the red carpet in a stunning black gown with a sheer bodice and dropped waist. While posing with Gleeson, the two shared a kiss in front of the photographers.  In addition to Gaga, the four other Best Song nominees are taking the stage throughout the evening, with Diane Warren teaming up with Sofia Carson on «Applause» from ; Rihanna singing «Lift Me Up» from ; Indian singers Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava performing «Naatu Naatu» from ; and «This Is a Life» from  being performed by David Byrne, Son Lux and Best Supporting Actress nominee Stephanie Hsu. The 2023 Academy Awards hosted by Jimmy Kimmel airs live on Sunday, March 12 starting at 8 p.m.

Charna Flam While best supporting actress acting nominee Stephanie Hsu didn’t record the original song “This Is a Life” for the film “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” she proved in her performance on the Oscars stage that she is qualified to take the reins from Mitski, who sang on the soundtrack version. For a performance of the song, Hsu was joined onstage at the Academy Awards by former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne and composer trio Sox Lux (Ryan Lott, Rafiq Bhatia, Ian Chang), who are also featured on the Oscar-nominated song. Among an ensemble of singers, musicians and dancers dressed all in white, Byrne stood out by wearing a set of so-called hot dog fingers, as made famous in one of the more physiologically strange parts of the multiverse in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”

Angelique Jackson “Hey Auntie. We love you.” Five simple words from presenters Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors, directed at Angela Bassett, who was nominated for the best supporting actress Oscar during Sunday night’s ceremony. As Jordan and Majors took the stage to present the award for best cinematography — two categories after the supporting actress prize went to “Everything Everywhere All At Once” star Jamie Lee Curtis — the two men took a moment to speak to Bassett seated before them. “Hey Auntie,” Jordan began, echoing his dialogue from 2018’s “Black Panther,” as his character Erik Killmonger slyly introduced himself to Bassett’s Queen Ramonda.

I’m hundreds of people. Where are the Daniels?,” she asked in her emotional acceptance speech, continuing to list of all the people who supported her. “Halloween” director John Carpenter was one of the first to congratulate the longtime horror star, tweeting “Congratulations Jamie Lee! You are the bomb!”“To all the people who have supported the genre movies that I’ve made for these years, the thousands and hundreds of thousands of people, we just won an Oscar together!,” she said.
