Over the past decade, as Marvel Studios productions have become more popular, we’ve seen the directors of the feature films move onto high-profile, non-superhero work more times than not. And now, as Marvel Studios starts showcasing filmmaking talent in the various TV series this year, we’re seeing the trend translate to the small screen talent, as well, with “WandaVision” filmmaker Matt Shakman landing a new “Star Trek” film.

EXCLUSIVE: Following the massive success of directing Marvel’s Falcon and the Winter Soldier series, Kari Skogland looks to have found her next film project and will be teaming up with a fellow superhero in the process. Sources tell Deadline, Skogland has been set to Paramount’s Cleopatra pic starring Gal Gadot. Skogland steps in for Patty Jenkins, who was previously attached to direct and is pivoting to a producing role. Jenkins fell off as director so she could focus on her next two projects, Wonder Woman 3 and Rogue Squadron.

While Lucasfilm is reportedly having issues trying to figure out their next “Star Wars” feature film after they pumped the breaks on Patty Jenkins‘ project “Star Wars: Rogue Squadron,” these issues don’t exist so much on Disney+. It’s full speed ahead on a lot of projects (ok, minus “Rangers of The Republic“) and the next big release will be “The Book of Boba Fett” debuting on December 29.

Lucasfilm might still be struggling to bring movies to the big screen (see the indefinitely delayed Patty Jenkins “Star Wars: Rogue Squadron” project), but they are having much better luck on Disney+ and television. The next major direction the company seems to be pushing towards is bringing as many of their beloved animated characters into a live-action environment.

When high-profile films experience behind-the-scenes issues, you often see studios and folks involved cite other, smaller issues as the primary reason. The joke is that “scheduling conflict” is often never truly a scheduling issue.

Almost a year ago, Lucasfilm finally pulled back the curtain and revealed which project will be the first “Star Wars” film in theaters since 2019’s ‘Rise of Skywalker.’ The new film, titled “Rogue Squadron,” was introduced by filmmaker Patty Jenkins, coming off her huge blockbuster success with “Wonder Woman.” However, since that announcement, there hasn’t been any news about casting or production on the film, even with its 2023 release date.
