EXCLUSIVE: Michael Jackson will be played by the late icon’s 26-year old nephew Jaafar Jackson in the Antoine Fuqua-directed film biopic for Lionsgate. Fuqua just posted a confirmation on Instagram. The singer and songwriter is the son of Jermaine Jackson, who is the brother of Michael and member of The Jackson 5. Jaafar has been singing and dancing since age 12, and has showcased himself singing tunes from Sam Cooke to Marvin Gaye, along with originals.

I was influenced to make music videos by watching his work – the first Black artist to play in heavy rotation on MTV.'  'His music and those images are part of my worldview, and the chance to tell his story on the screen alongside his music was irresistible,' Fuqua raved.Last February, Deadline reported Lionsgate had picked up distribution rights for the film, which was written by Gladiator writer John Logan.

EXCLUSIVE: Antoine Fuqua is set to direct Michael, a Lionsgate drama with script by telling the complex life story of the iconic singer Michael Jackson. A script is in by John Logan, and the film will be produced by Graham King, who turned the Freddie Mercury Queen story into the blockbuster Best Picture nominated Bohemian Rhapsody. GK Films will produce alongside co-executors of Jackson’s estate, John Branca and John McClain.

Set at a janky gay conversion camp, this Blumhouse-produced, Peacock-released LGBT empowerment exercise presents itself as a cross between “Friday the 13th” and “But I’m a Cheerleader.” Alas, it’s so committed to affirmational messages about queer identity not being a choice, a condition or a legitimate motive to get axed by a deranged serial killer, that the movie all but forgets to be scary — although enlisting Kevin Bacon as too-genial-to-be-trusted camp overseer Owen Whistler nearly makes it work.“I wanted my favorite genre to celebrate who I was, so I wrote this movie,” openly gay writer-director John Logan told the closing-night crowd of Outfest — the first audience to see his well-intentioned but poorly executed feature directing debut.

Over the course of a week-long session at the camp, Whistler butts heads with Jordan (played by Germaine), a trans and nonbinary teen who made a deal with their parents to legally emancipate themself after attending the camp.

This is one summer camp you want to avoid.

What’s better than a slasher film? How about a slasher film set at a camp? The multiple entries in the “Friday the 13th” franchise and the cult following of the “Sleepaway Camp” series would suggest that it is a surefire way to get eyes on screens. The upcoming film “They/Them” however, looks to throw an interesting cultural molotov cocktail into this tried and true premise.

Outfest Los Angeles LGBTQ+ Film Festival today announced a star-studded lineup of galas and centerpiece events that will punctuate its 40th anniversary, which will be celebrated from July 14-24 in venues around Los Angeles.

This is the house that Jason built — and the American Cinematheque will celebrate both this year. The cultural arts org will present Jason Blum and his company Blumhouse with the 2022 Power of Cinema Award.
