Plan to preserve iconic Sinclair Memorial in grounds of Dumfries Museum
The day before his death he had won life-sized sandstone sculptures of “Old Mortality” and his pony in a lottery and they are housed in the building. They were created by Dumfries’ John Currie and are of an itinerant stonemason, called Robert Paterson (1712-1800), who spent his life maintaining, erecting and re-inscribing monuments dedicated to the Covenanters all over Dumfries and Galloway.
