Michele Amabile Angermiller For decades around the seaside city that he made famous, Asbury Park locals have said regularly, “Bruce might show up.” Last weekend at the sixth annual Sea. Hear. Now Festival, he certainly did: Four separate times.

Bruce Springsteen and Noah Kahan both appeared as special guests at an intimate show in New Jersey this past weekend.The two musicians made appearances at The Ocean Ave. Stomp featuring Tangiers Blues Band show that took place on Saturday (September 14), held at the Stone Pony in Ashbury Park, NJ.The annual gig is part of the festival Sea.Hear.Now’s late shows and saw the event’s co-founder and noted photographer Danny Clinch perform as part of the band.

Michele Amabile Angermiller Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band and Noah Kahan are set to headline the Sea.Hear.Now festival on the New Jersey shore on the weekend of Sept. 14-15 — representing a triumphant homecoming show for the Boss, who of course named his 1973 debut album after the festival’s location of Asbury Park.

Bruce Springsteen is set to open next month at a museum in Boston.The exhibit is titled Bruce Springsteen: Portraits Of An American Music Icon and will open on September 13 as part of the The Folk Americana Roots Hall of Fame in the Boch Center Wang Theatre.The show will feature photographs of The Boss from a host of photographers including Danny Clinch, Ed Gallucci, Eric Meola, Barry Schneier, Pamela Springsteen and Frank Stefanko.A description for the event reads: “From the streets of New Jersey to the sunbaked landscapes of California, this career-spanning photo exhibit showcases intimate photographs of one of America’s most important musical voices.“Through photos and interviews, this exhibit gives a unique perspective of Bruce Springsteen away from the sold-out arenas and in front of the lens.”Mark your calendars! The Jazz Foundation of America honored 10-time Grammy-winning composer and pianist Dave Grusin, saxophonist Charles Lloyd and trailblazing music executive Clarence Avant at a benefit to raise proceeds for jazz, blues and R&B musicians facing financial hardship due to unemployment, illness or old age. Though host Quincy Jones was unable to attend due to unspecified health issues of his own, he and the JFA assembled a program of speakers and performers for an evening of celebration and song that the phrase “star-studded” barely does adequate justice.

Michele Amabile Angermiller Not long into her headlining set on the first day of the fourth annual Sea Hear Now festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey, Stevie Nicks had a question for the thousands stretched across the beach. “Is this the world of Bruce Springsteen?” she asked to enthusiastic cheers. “OK, we’re driving through, and there’s a street sign and I asked that same question and nobody really answered, at least like you guys just did.” Springsteen is certainly a part of the tapestry of the town, and was well-represented in photographer/festival organizer Danny Clinch’s art tent. But the city has an ever-evolving musical scene, and the beachside setting was its own draw on a weekend of warm, beautiful days and picturesque nights, with an ocean breeze enveloping Nicks and her flowing scarves, creating an ambience — or as she described it, a “fairytale” — only Mother Nature can provide. A red crescent moon peeking through the overhead clouds added to the mystique on the final weekend of summer and beginning of the fall season, or as Nicks — in a nod to her fans donning witch hats and Stevie-attire on the sand — framed it: “it’s almost Halloween.”
