The Zombies‘ Rod Argent has announced his immediate retirement from touring following a stroke he suffered.The news of the keyboardist’s retirement was announced by the band’s managers Chris Tuthill and Cindy da Silva today (July 11) on Instagram.They shared that Argent had a stroke shortly after spending a weekend in London with his wife Cathy to celebrate their 52nd wedding anniversary as well as his 79th birthday, saying doctors advised him to take “several months of rest and recuperation”.“He was already preparing to wind down his live performance schedule after health scares on recent tours,” the announcement read. “However, the stroke was an unmistakable warning sign that the risks are too great.”As such, all upcoming headline appearances from The Zombies have been cancelled, as well as a 2024 US tour that was also in the works.

The Zombies have canceled upcoming tour dates after founding member Rod Argent suffered a stroke.

Jem Aswad Executive Editor, Music Keyboardist Rod Argent, founder of legendary British groups the Zombies and Argent, will retire from touring as he recovers from a stroke, the group’s management announced on Thursday. “Rod had recently returned home from a triumphant Zombies tour of the UK, and spent a weekend in London with his beloved wife Cathy, celebrating his 79th birthday and their 52nd wedding anniversary, before the stroke occurred,” the announcement reads. “He was hospitalized overnight, and released the next day.

The Zombies are headed to the U.S. for a 20-concert fall 2023 tour from Oct.

Sometimes it feels as though A.I. is already here, given the number of films resembling Garden State that pop up on the festival circuit every year. Robert Schwartzman’s The Good Half is only the latest, and his attempt to out-emo Zach Braff’s legacy film falls disappointingly short, given that his last Tribeca appearance was with the surreal and underrated comedy The Argument (2020), which channeled Charlie Kaufman in the story of a couple whose obsession with a petty fight spirals into absurdity. The Good Half, however, mostly serves as a decent vehicle for Nick Jonas, who seems to making a play to be the new Adam Driver, which is not as far-fetched as it might sound.

Roy Trakin Like their unlikely namesake, the Zombies have had several lives since being formed by keyboardist Rod Argent and vocalist Colin Blunstone in St. Albans in Hertfordshire U.K. in the early 1960s. The first British Invasion act after the Beatles to score a chart-topping U.S. hit with “She’s Not There,” the guys disbanded shortly before their 1968 soon-to-be-cult album, çOdessey and Oracle,” was released. That collection produced another stateside smash in “Time of the Season,” which Al Kooper belatedly convinced Columbia’s Clive Davis to put it out. Since Argent and Blunstone reunited as the Zombies in 2004, the group has released four albums, the latest, the Covid-delayed “Different Game,” on indie Cooking Vinyl, which serves as the follow-up to 2015’s aptly titled “Still Got That Hunger.”
