Hot Chip have announced details of their new album ‘Freakout/Release’ – you can hear their new single ‘Down’ below.The forthcoming record will be the follow-up to the five-piece’s ‘A Bath Full Of Ecstasy’, which was released back in June 2019.Hot Chip’s eighth studio album ‘Freakout/Release’ will be released on August 19 via Domino. Written and recorded in the band’s Relax & Enjoy studio in east London, the making of the album was particularly inspired by the band’s regular live cover of Beastie Boys’ ‘Sabotage’.“The idea of being out of control is always there in dance music, in a positive sense,” Hot Chip’s Al Doyle said in a press release in relation to the cover’s influence on the new album, with frontman Alexis Taylor adding: “By the time we were able to be back together, we were turning on a tap and having a lot of ideas being poured out quite quickly.”In regards to the lyrical themes of ‘Freakout/Release’, Joe Goddard said: “We were living through a period where it was very easy to feel like people were losing control of their lives in different ways. Toronto rapper Cadence Weapon's fifth album, released in April of last year, won him the 2021 Polaris Prize, beating out The Weather Station, Mustafa, and others for Canada's highest music honor. On March 25, he'll drop a deluxe version of the record featuring six remixes, and today, he's released the second of those.

Cadence Weapon has won the 2021 Polaris Prize for his album Parallel World. The Toronto-based rapper, real name Rollie Pemberton, will receive a $50,000 prize fund and additional financial support for a future release.

The Polaris Music Prize, an annual event celebrating the best Canadian music of the year, has revealed the short list selections for its $50,000 top prize. Mustafa made the list with In Smoke Rises (its single "Stay Alive" was one of our 100 favorite songs of 2020) The Weather Station's Ignorance, and Zoon's Bleached Waves (read a short interview with the shoegaze musician here).

Nobody can deny the sheer alchemy of Cadence Weapon and Jacques Greene. The two share a formidable collaborative history: Greene produced "The Host” and “High Rise” on Cadence's self-titled debut back in 2018, and Cadence returned the favor in spades on "Night Class" off Greene's 2019 album Dawn Chorus.
