Frankfurt star's head split open as Rangers' John Lundstram avoids red card for challenge
Rangers' John Lundstram's left boot split the head open of Eintracht Frankfurt captain Sebastian Rode less than five minutes into their crunch Europa League final showdown in Seville. The semi-final hero was quick to apologise to his counterpart after his studs caught the very top of the forehead of the former Borussia Dortmund man - leaving him covered in blood.Referee Slavko Vincic didn't offer up a card, with VAR officials not suggesting any further action as Rode received medical attention before getting a huge white and blue bandage as well as a fresh shirt all in the opening 10 minutes. One fan wrote on Twitter: "How on earth has Lundstram got away with not getting a yellow for that?"With a second adding: "Lundstram escaping a yellow for scalping Rode is a travesty."With a third saying: "Very nasty challenge on Rode and his head is bloody it’s not serious foul but surely it’s yellow card for Lundstram." HAVE YOUR SAY! How would Rangers fare in the Premier League? Tell us in the comments section And a fourth agreeing: "Lundstram just busted rode's head open with a kick and didnt even get a yellow card."Former Rangers striker Mark Hateley said of the incident on BBC Sportsound: "It's happened so early in the game, I wonder if the referee has taken that into consideration."If it had happened late in the first half, early in the second half, would we have had the same outcome? A different referee might have seen it completely differently."Lundstram had said before the fixture: "My form is a lot better and it coincides with the run we’ve had."It helps to get a run of games to try and show what I can do."I’m glad it’s turned out the way it has and just thankful to the manager for giving me the opportunity.
