A person has been found dead on a railway line near Greater Manchester. All trains have been suspended between Stockport and Stoke-on-Trent after emergency services were called to the incident at Adlington railway station this morning (Monday).
Officers from the British Transport Police were called to reports of a 'casualty on the tracks' at about 11.40am. Paramedics also attended and a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers say the person's death is "not being treated as suspicious". The tragic incident has caused a number of lines to be shut and is affecting Northern, Avanti West Coast and CrossCountry services.
Passengers have been warned to expect disruption throughout the afternoon. A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Adlington railway station at around 11.40am today (13 January) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. "Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
